Commissioned by Sunderland Creatives Agency
Client: University of Sunderland
While working with Sunderland Creatives Agency, I was assigned to design a vinyl mural for the University of Sunderland's Edinburgh building. My role was to transform the space into a vibrant and relaxing environment that students could enjoy.
Inspired by the local architecture, sculpture and monuments, with a lean towards the incorporation of natural elements.
Birds in flight symbolise the ascent of knowledge and personal growth gained throughout the journey of earning a degree.

A reference to Ray Lonsdale's sculpture, which stands as a reminder of Sunderland's industrial past. For the mural, this connection is deliberately extended to draw a parallel with nature's resilience and renewal.

Florals add a calming contrast to strong forms.

Incorporating symbolism like a pencil, a light bulb, books, and gears, the mural reflects the courses pursued at the University of Sunderland. Outstretched hands and a globe signify appreciation for the diversity and multiculturalism present. The inclusion of local bird sculptures highlights the contrast between rigid structures and the natural elements interwoven throughout the design.
